Rentwelly now connects to Claude and ChatGPT

3 min read

You can now connect Rentwelly to AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. Sign in once, and your assistant can pull real answers straight from your books — no exporting, no copy-paste. It's built on the open Model Context Protocol (MCP) with a proper OAuth sign-in, so access stays yours to grant and revoke.

What you can ask

Because the assistant reads from your live ledger, the answers are real, not guesses. Ask things like: “Who is behind on rent right now?”, “What's my profit and loss for this year on 31 S Miller St?”, “Show me the rent roll and which units are vacant,” or “List the open invoices for this tenant.”

Every figure comes from the same double-entry ledger that powers your reports, so what the assistant tells you matches what you'd see on the A/R aging, P&L, and rent-roll pages.

Is it read-only, or two-way?

Both — you choose. By default the connector is read-only: the assistant can view your data and reports but cannot change anything. That's the safest setting and it's on by default.

When you turn on write access in Settings, it becomes two-way: the assistant can also take actions for you, like recording a tenant payment or creating a charge. You stay in control — write access is a per-organization switch you can flip off anytime, and it only covers safe actions (no deleting, no voiding, no settings changes).

How sign-in works

Connecting uses OAuth — the same “sign in and approve” flow you know from connecting apps to Google. In Claude or ChatGPT you add Rentwelly as a custom connector using your connector URL; the assistant sends you to a Rentwelly sign-in page where you approve access. There are no API keys to copy or paste around.

Each connection is tied to your organization and your login, and you can see and disconnect connected assistants anytime under Settings → AI Connector.

Turning it on

Open Settings → AI Connector, switch the connector on, and decide whether to allow write actions. Copy the connector URL shown there into Claude's or ChatGPT's connector setup, sign in, and approve. That's it.

Prefer to keep it hands-off? Leave writes disabled and use it purely to ask questions about your portfolio — a fast way to get answers without opening a single report.
